Approaching Maximum Warp

Wow but there is a lot of Star Trek RPG buzz about the net of late! All it takes is a popular movie and everyone is a Star Trek fan again. That's cool by me as popularity usually translates to merchandise like miniature ships, toy props, books and, dare I say it, the possibility of a new role playing game.

Well I can dream can't I.

Anyway, I'm sorry for the lack of posts once again but I am working on putting the finishing touches on my new campaign. Once production is largely completed I will come back and do a pre-game and then a post game run down. I'm so exciting about this I can hardly keep down my Andorian Tuber Root Soup!

  1. One good thing about a TOS era game is that there's no shortage of props available. You can easily get communicators, tricorders and phasers. You can even buy licensed uniform shirts, although the ones I've seen are pretty pricey. And ADB deserves credit for keep a line of TOS ship miniatures going. Nice to have that stuff around.

  2. Agreed. Its funny though that the TOS Movie Era is a little tougher as far as props go. I have the Silver TMP Phaser and the Assault Phaser from ST:V-VI but my favorite, the constantly redressed ST:III Phaser is no where to be found. Likewise the Tricorder from that era is nearly impossible to locate.

Luckily, thanks to FASA and Micro Machines, starship abound.

  3. Andorian Tuber Root Soup<

Don't order from one of those Andorian take-outs. Those angry s.o.b. spit in every other order (and those ain't good odds).

  4. I'm still a bit surprised by how *little* merchandising has taken place around the film's release. I'll admit, I'm not paying much attention to the new stuff (I love the Enterprise, but those Playmates figures are generally awful; and I just don't think much of the new communicator, phaser or tricorder). But I expected a lot more companies to jump on the classic bandwagon. Man, I was really secretly hoping to see a revival of the micro-machines, or some great new Johnny Lightnings' (love that scale). But with the exception of a lot of DST stuff which we already knew was coming, there just hasn't been much at all.

Some good news, though. I heard ADB was about to re-release the plastic Gamescience starships from the Technical Manual again. My recollection is that the quality on them is much better than their own metal miniatures. Just Feds, though.

I should be grateful. I'm at the edge of broke these days and got hit with a company-wide pay cut! I shouldn't be spending at all!!!

  5. Heh, I hear that. I'm in the same boat.

At the same time, I can't believe there is no "Art of" or "Making of" books for the film. What's up with that?

    1. Probably because there was no art involved in making this film, at least based on the slapdash, ugly bridge and Enterprise and "reimagined" uniforms, etc.
