I'm a Winner!

...Or so my Mother and Robert Saint John over at the Groknard blog tell me.

I am the lucky winner of the Enterprise Japanese TRPG (Tabletop or Tabletalk Role Playing Game as the Japanese say) translation. I am very pleased as you can imagine. A big Star Trek, gaming and Star Trek gaming fan, I am also a collector and otaku for Japanese rpg books.

It pays to be a fan.

If you haven't checked out Robert's blog, do yourself a favor and beam over. I might do a mini-review myself in the near future.

  1. So tell me, now that I've crossed the JTRPG threshold, where do I go next? Give me a recommendation! I've still got 2 Trek wargames lined up to translate, but I'd like to see something I haven't seen before. What do you like? Sword World? Star Legend?

And congratulations again, and I really did mean it: I lurrvv Among the Clans. I hope to contribute something as fine as that to RPGs someday!

When I win that lottery so that I can acquire the Trek RPG license, you'll be one of the first I contact. ;)

  2. I appreciate that. If I win the lottery I'll be sure to due the same.

Sword World and Sword World 2.0 are probably the best games to go for to get a feel of what the Japanese Grognard and his/her descendants are playing. It grew out of the US games that were initially imported over there and as such is almost like looking at game mechanics evolution taking an alternate path.

While I am not a huge advocate of D20, there are two relatively recent D20 compatible games from Hobby Japan that might be worth a look. Metalhead D20 is a cyberpunk meets early space travel game and Wares Blade D20 is Magic and Giant Robots game. Both originally had games with their own systems. The art work on them is amazing.
